The 2020 edition of Angola's five-thousand kwanza banknotes will be issued on February 4th, which coincides with the start of the armed struggle for national liberation.

The new 5000 kwanza banknote was originally planned to be issued in January, and the National Bank of Angola (BNA) decided to issue it on February 4 as a tribute to the Angolan national hero. This is the fifth new version of the banknotes issued by BNA from July 2020.

The new version of the 5,000 kwanza banknote is mainly in lavender color. In addition to the image of the founder of the nation, it also has a pattern of the site of the World Cultural Heritage Mbanza Kongo Cathedral (Zaire Province).

Like other banknotes already in circulation, the new 5,000 banknotes also include the hypertext of the Angolan national anthem and other anti-counterfeiting features.

Previously, the BNA's gradual issuance of new banknotes in 2020 is: 200 kwanza denominations in July, 500 kwanzas denominations in September, 1,000 kwanzas denominations and 2,000 kwanzas denominations in October.

The 2020 version of the new banknotes, except for the 5000 kwanza denominations issued this time, continue to maintain tissue paper, and the 200-2000 kwanzas denominations are all polymer (plastic) substrates. All the banknotes bear the first president of Angola, Antonio A.The head of Gostini Netto.
