Practical Training in Mind, Quality Improvement in Action | Specialised Training Supports High-Quality Construction at the Zambian Company
Since the second half of last year, the Zambian construction company has been actively expanding into the local market, with its business footprint continuing to grow. It has successively secured a number of new projects, including site clearance for photovoltaic installations, the construction of a 25-kilometre road, sludge treatment for the water sector, and the connection of household pipelines to the mains network. The arrival of a large number of new employees has injected fresh energy into the team’s development.
As these new business ventures are progressively implemented, project construction and team management are facing fresh challenges: construction conditions in Zambia are complex and the geographical characteristics distinct. Furthermore, as newly appointed managers are still in the process of gaining experience, their capabilities in the overall coordination and management of new projects, on-site construction scheduling, and handling of critical and difficult situations remain inadequate. There is an urgent need for systematic and specialised training to address these capability gaps, optimise management models, and meet the requirements for high-quality project delivery in new overseas projects.
In order to address construction challenges in new overseas business ventures, rectify shortcomings in project management and technical capabilities, and comprehensively enhance the overall management and control of projects currently under construction in Zambia, a specialised training session on overseas project construction management was recently organised and held online under the overall coordination and leadership of Yang Shoujie, General Manager of the Group’s Construction Company. The training session was chaired by Yang Shoujie and attended by all staff from the Engineering, Operations and Commercial Departments of the Zambia Company, as well as project management personnel from all its projects in Zambia. The session focused on providing specialised instruction and guidance on key aspects of project construction organisation and planning, as well as on-site coordination and deployment. The training session featured special online presentations by Hu Dianwang, General Manager of the Engineering Department at the Angola Construction Company, and Project Manager Yu Jingfu. Drawing on key topics such as full-process overseas construction standards, specialised earthworks plans, core on-site control points, and the operation and maintenance management of machinery and equipment, the instructors shared valuable first-hand practical experience, providing participants with professional and practical training.
This training programme was closely tailored to the complex local construction conditions in Zambia. With its detailed and highly targeted content, it comprehensively covered the entire process of standardised management—from project contracting and construction preparation through on-site operations and process control to completion and handover. It focused in particular on key local construction challenges, such as construction during the rainy season, working with special soil types, soft ground treatment and on-site management of machinery and equipment, thereby establishing clear practical control standards.
During the training, project managers engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanged experiences based on their respective project realities. This training not only effectively addressed technical and managerial shortcomings in the company’s emerging business areas, enhanced the team’s capabilities in managing complex projects and handling risks, and established practical guidelines tailored to local construction conditions, but also provided new insights for the Commercial Department’s preliminary assessments, business coordination and contract fulfilment collaboration, thereby effectively promoting inter-departmental collaboration to improve quality and efficiency.
Following the training, the various project departments of the Zambia Company promptly conducted self-inspections and self-corrections in line with the training content, comprehensively identifying shortcomings in construction, management and technical aspects, and implementing closed-loop corrective measures to ensure the rapid implementation and application of the training outcomes. Moving forward, the Zambia Company will regularly organise practical, specialised training sessions to continuously strengthen the foundation of its talent pool and address shortcomings in business development. Through professionalised management, it will ensure the high-quality and efficient progress of all ongoing projects, thereby further enhancing the company’s reputation in overseas construction.

Deepening Overseas Industrial Operations to Give Back to His Alma Mater: Chen Jiazhong of Guangjin International Group Elected Executive Vice-President of the Henan Alumni Association of Huashui University
On 14 June, the election meeting for the new board of directors of the Henan Alumni Association of North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower was successfully held at the university’s Longzi Lake Campus. As a key event in the series of activities marking the university’s 75th anniversary, the meeting successfully concluded the election for the new board of directors. Chen Jiazhong, Chairman of Guangjin International Group and a graduate of the Class of 2000 at North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower, was unanimously elected, with a unanimous vote from all attending delegates, as the Second Executive Vice-President of the Henan Alumni Association of North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower.
University leaders, including the Vice-Chancellor Liu Junguo, Deputy Party Secretary Jiao Aiping and Vice-Vice-Chancellor Song Gangfu, attended the conference and presented letters of appointment to the new members of the Council, formally appointing Mr Chen Jiazhong as Executive Vice-President of the Henan Alumni Association. In their addresses, the university leaders spoke highly of the remarkable achievements of Mr Chen Jiazhong and Guangjin International Group in the fields of overseas infrastructure and cross-border industries, acknowledging their role as industry leaders. They also urged all alumni to emulate his valuable spirit of daring to pioneer and strive, being pragmatic and steadfast, and remaining true to his original aspirations.
At the meeting, Principal Liu Junguo expressed his hope that alumni-run enterprises would capitalise on their respective industry strengths, focus on their core businesses and fulfil their social responsibilities, whilst actively integrating their personal growth and corporate development into the broader context of the nation’s development, thereby giving back to society and supporting their alma mater through practical action.
To support alumni development and carry forward the spirit of the university, the university organised two special alumni-themed sharing sessions on the afternoon of 13 June, in the run-up to the leadership transition conference. The sessions, entitled ‘Passing on the Torch: Career Guidance for the Future’ and ‘Looking to the World: Building Global Dreams’, were held simultaneously at the Garden Campus and Longzihu Campus. Focusing on the two key topics of career development and overseas entrepreneurship, they attracted nearly 200 current students, recent graduates and young alumni to attend and engage in discussions and learning.
As a member of the national ‘Belt and Road’ research project and President of the Henan Chamber of Commerce in Angola, Mr Chen Jiazhong has, over the course of several decades, led his team in expanding into overseas markets, implementing a number of key overseas public welfare projects, and promoting China’s infrastructure standards and management models abroad, thereby showcasing the pragmatic spirit of Huashui alumni. Alongside his professional endeavours, he has long given back to his alma mater. In 2011, he established the ‘Chen Jiazhong Fund for Rewarding Excellence and Supporting Students in Need’, which continues to reward outstanding students and provide financial support to those facing financial hardship.
Speaking about his new role within the alumni association, Mr Chen Jiazhong set out a clear and pragmatic action plan. He stated that he would draw upon Guangjin International’s overseas industrial and chamber of commerce resources to build bridges of communication between his alma mater, alumni and industry stakeholders both at home and abroad. He is committed to establishing a platform for resources, employment and career development centred on youth development, industry-academia collaboration and educational philanthropy, whilst deepening university-enterprise partnerships. By leveraging the strengths of overseas industrial operations, he plans to align the university’s research and talent development with industry needs, thereby promoting the commercialisation of research outcomes, the supply of talent and international project collaboration, to achieve mutual benefit for both parties. On the occasion of his alma mater’s 75th anniversary, Mr Chen Jiazhong and Guangjin International will uphold the university’s motto – ‘Dedication to Water Resources, Unceasing Self-Improvement’ – by remaining firmly rooted in the real economy, shouldering their responsibilities, and sparing no effort to promote the high-quality development of their alma mater as well as the growth and success of its alumni, thereby writing a new and glorious chapter in the journey of Hua Shui alumni in the new era.

Strengthening Safety Measures for Work at Height and Ensuring Safety at Night – Guangjin UAE Conducts Specialised Training on Safety for Working at Height and Night-time Operations
The large-scale elevated bridge project in Sharjah, undertaken by Guangjin UAE, has entered the initial phase of the superstructure works, resulting in an increase in the frequency of work at height. Furthermore, due to weather conditions and government regulations, night-time construction has gradually become the norm. In light of this, on 5 June, Guangjin UAE joined forces with CGC Group to hold a safety training session. The training focused on two high-risk scenarios: safety protection for work at height and risk management for night-time construction.
During the safety training session on working at height, the safety instructor provided a detailed explanation of topics including scaffolding erection, the operation of mobile elevating work platforms, and the ‘high-hang, low-use’ principle for safety harnesses. By presenting recent case studies of typical falls from height, the instructor analysed in detail the serious consequences of hazards such as the incorrect use of personal protective equipment, inadequate protection at the work surface, and working in hazardous weather conditions. Practical exercises were also organised on-site, covering the correct donning of safety harnesses and the selection of anchor points for safety ropes, to ensure that every worker operating at height is capable of ‘inspecting, using and responding to emergencies’.
In light of the complex nature of night-time construction environments, inadequate lighting and the susceptibility of workers to fatigue, the training session outlined the ‘six musts’ for night-time construction: a dedicated lighting plan must be drawn up; conspicuous warning signs must be erected; a dual-supervision system must be implemented; working hours must be strictly controlled; pre-shift safety checks must be carried out; and emergency communication equipment must be provided. In addition, the instructor used specific procedures such as night-time lifting and concrete pouring to explain coordination during concurrent operations, avoidance of machinery blind spots, and procedures for dealing with sudden power cuts.
This training session covered all on-site management and construction personnel. The CGC safety officer stated that, going forward, safety during work at height and night-time construction will be prioritised in daily inspections. The company will strictly enforce the requirements that ‘no one takes up a post without training, no work is carried out without protective equipment, and no night-time work is conducted without adequate lighting’, and will resolutely uphold the red line of workplace safety.

Prevention in Mind, Safety in Action | Guangjin Angola Conducts Specialised Training on Epidemic Prevention and Construction Safety
To effectively prevent the risk of imported Ebola cases
and implement the requirements of the National Work Safety Month,
on 6 June, Guangjin Angola organised a special online training session on epidemic prevention knowledge
and safe and civilised construction practices.
All staff in Angola attended the session,
thereby solidifying the safety defences on both the epidemic prevention and production fronts.
The training was divided into three main modules: virus prevention and control, mental health and stress management, and construction safety. The content was closely aligned with the practical realities of overseas projects and was highly practical. During the session, Wang Juan, Manager of the Human Resources Department, delivered a detailed presentation on Ebola virus prevention and control, outlining key protective measures and precautions, and guiding staff on how to protect themselves effectively. Furthermore, taking into account the nature of long-term overseas assignments, she provided guidance on psychological support and stress relief techniques, demonstrating a genuine concern for staff’s physical and mental wellbeing and conveying the company’s warm support.
Hu Dianwang, General Manager of the Engineering Department, delivered a training session on the theme of workplace safety, adhering to the principles of ‘safety first, prevention foremost, and comprehensive management’, and focusing on high-risk areas within the project. He placed particular emphasis on operational standards and safety requirements for critical areas such as working at height, temporary electrical installations, machinery operation and fire safety, thereby further strengthening the entire workforce’s awareness of safety red lines, sense of responsibility and emergency response capabilities.
During the training session, General Manager Hu emphasised that project managers must fulfil their duties as the primary persons responsible for safety and take the lead in deploying and implementing safety measures. Moving forward, the company will conduct a comprehensive, company-wide self-inspection and rectification of potential hazards, carrying out thorough checks and improvements in construction, office and living areas, as well as in relation to equipment, fire safety, and water and electricity systems. It will also organise regular emergency drills, safety awareness campaigns and warning education to ensure that safety responsibilities are assigned to specific posts and individuals. This training has further strengthened the foundations of safety management and addressed existing safety shortcomings. Moving forward, the Angola Company will continue to rigorously implement routine epidemic prevention and safety management measures, safeguarding the physical and mental well-being of employees, strictly upholding safety standards, and ensuring the smooth, orderly and safe progress of overseas projects.

Good news from overseas infrastructure projects: Substructure work completed on the Sharjah flyover project; the Henan Chamber of Commerce in the UAE pays a courtesy visit
With the spirit of Labour Day still in the air, enthusiasm remains undiminished on overseas construction sites. On 9 May 2026, the Sharjah Viaduct project, undertaken by Henan Guangjin UAE Co., Ltd., reached a significant milestone: the successful completion of the project’s substructure works, marking a major phase in the construction process. At this crucial juncture, Hu Huanying, President of the Henan Chamber of Commerce in the UAE, led a delegation on a special visit to the project site to conduct a morale-boosting visit, expressing care and respect to the builders who have remained steadfast at their posts and are working tirelessly on the front line.
Since the launch of the Sharjah Viaduct project on 5 January 2026, the project team has overcome multiple challenges—including a tight schedule, a heavy workload, high temperatures and complex on-site construction logistics—while maintaining high standards and efficiency in advancing the project. During the May Day holiday, all personnel involved in the project voluntarily remained at their posts and worked tirelessly to meet key construction milestones. Through their relentless efforts, the lower structure works were completed ahead of schedule, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the upper structure.
During the visit, Chairman Hu and his delegation toured the construction site to gain a detailed understanding of the project’s progress, health and safety standards, and staff welfare. He spoke highly of the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the Guangjin team. Chairman Hu noted that Henan-based enterprises have actively participated in infrastructure development in the UAE in recent years, thereby establishing a positive image for Chinese companies in overseas markets. He expressed his hope that the project team would continue to uphold these fine standards and complete the remaining construction tasks safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Recently, Guangjin Angola announced some exciting news: it has successfully won the tender for the construction project of the Mavanga Hospital in Kubango Province, Angola. This represents yet another significant breakthrough for the Group as it deepens its presence in the African market and expands into the field of overseas healthcare infrastructure, marking a solid step forward in its international development strategy.
One hospital, one community. The Mawenga Hospital project is a key public welfare initiative in Angola. Located in the Mawenga district of Kubango Province, it covers a total site area of approximately 110,000 square metres, with a planned capacity of 203 beds and a total floor area of 23,380.10 square metres. Uniting Through Basketball, Showcasing Our Spirit | Guangjin Angola’s Friendly Basketball Match Comes to a Successful Conclusion
To enrich the cultural and sporting lives of overseas staff, foster communication and collaboration between companies, and put into practice the spirit of ‘embracing diversity and striving for excellence’, the Angola Company’s friendly basketball match officially kicked off on the afternoon of 26 April at the Trade Company’s 4S Store basketball court.
In this match, the Construction Office and the Materials Company formed Team A, whilst the General Trading and Automotive Trading departments formed Team B. On the court, players from both sides were full of energy and fighting spirit, sprinting swiftly, passing with precision, shooting with determination and defending in perfect unison; every move was executed with total commitment, and every attack and defence was nail-biting. Upholding the principle of ‘friendship first, competition second’, the players demonstrated superb skills amidst the fierce contest, whilst the crowd responded with a constant chorus of applause and cheers.
After an hour of fierce competition, the match drew to a successful close amidst a gentle breeze and the evening glow. In the end, the Construction Company secured victory in this friendly match with a score of 44–36, beating the Trading Company by an eight-point margin. Though the match was over, the camaraderie remained. Afterwards, players from both teams gathered on the second floor of the Trading Company’s canteen, sitting around a steaming hotpot amidst constant laughter and cheerful conversation. Everyone chatted about amusing moments from the match and exchanged work experiences. Over dinner, everyone agreed that such events should be held on a regular basis and arranged a time for their next practice session.
This friendly basketball match served as a bond through sport and a gathering point through food. It not only provided overseas staff with a platform to relax and express themselves, but also deepened the bonds of friendship between companies in Angola and further strengthened team cohesion. Moving forward, all employees of Guangjin Angola will channel the fighting spirit displayed on the court into their work, throwing themselves into their duties with renewed enthusiasm and high morale. To help everyone overcome language barriers and better integrate into working and living abroad, the specialised Portuguese language training programme organised by Guangjin Angola commenced in April. For this course, the company has specially invited a lecturer with a PhD in Portuguese to deliver online lessons. Taking place twice a week for two hours each session during participants’ free time in the evenings, the seven-month programme offers systematic learning, guiding learners from absolute beginners to A2 level, enabling them to gradually master practical Portuguese.
The company’s DingTalk group hosts weekly live streams featuring educational videos, and all our offices and project teams in Angola have participated with great enthusiasm, covering everything from basic pronunciation to everyday conversational skills. It is not only our colleagues in Angola who have joined this learning initiative, but also some of our colleagues back in China. Everyone is making the most of this opportunity to improve their Portuguese language skills and overcome language barriers.
As well as attending live lessons, everyone took part in daily check-ins and spent five minutes during the morning meeting revising and reciting the vocabulary from the previous lesson, demonstrating a high level of engagement.
By engaging a professional Portuguese tutor and designing a long-term, structured course, the company has clearly demonstrated its commitment to valuing and nurturing its overseas staff. We hope that all colleagues will study diligently, speak with confidence, make the most of these six months of study, focus on self-improvement, acquire new skills, and become the best versions of themselves, so that they may settle into their overseas roles with greater ease.
